BCCI Apex Council to discuss England series, domestic season

The Apex Council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India is slated to meet place on October 17.

Schedule for India’s tour of the summer Down Under, home series against England and the Indian domestic season amidst the COVID-19 scenario will be the key items on the agenda.

The Apex Council, as hinted by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly earlier, will explore every possibility to host the England series in India. Though the possibility of the matches being played at an offshore venue, most probably the UAE, cannot be ruled out if the COVID-19 situation is not under control.

The BCCI will be trying to host England in a bio-secure bubble in Mumbai where a hotel can be booked exclusively for the entire stretch of the tour and matches can be played across the Wankhede Stadium, the Cricket Club of India’s Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil stadium at Navi Mumbai.

The board will also look at the possibility of restarting the domestic cricket despite the COVID-19 concerns.

India will host England from January to March next year for a five-Test series, two white ball series – three One Day Internationals and as many T20 internationals.

In view of the rising COVID cases in India, the UAE, which is currently hosting the IPL, had emerged as an alternative for the home series against England.

The BCCI, according to PTI, had initially planned to start it with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy from November 19, but there remain doubts due to the situation arising out of the pandemic.
