BCCI appoints former Gujarat DGP Khandwawala as Anti-Corruption Unit’s Chief

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Shabir Hussein Shekhadam Khandwawala as the Chief of its Anti-Corruption Unit.

Khandwawala will replace Ajit Singh, a former DGP of Rajasthan who held the office from April 2018 to March 2021, at the position ahead of the IPL 2021.

Khandwawala, 70, is a 1973 batch IPS officer and was an advisor to the Essar Group for the last 10 years after retiring as Gujarat DGP in December 2010.

To get an idea of the way things work in the Indian board, he recently attended the final ODI between India and England last month in Pune and also met with the officials of the ICC and the Anti-Corruption Unit.

Earlier, the BCCI used to invite applications for the ACU top post however, the board did not formally invite applications for the post this time.

According to reports, Khandwawala will be travelling to Chennai on Wednesday ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) opener between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
