FIFA U-17 World Cup India rescheduled for Feb 2021

The Bureau of the FIFA Council has confirmed revised dates for the Women’s Under-17 World Cup in India. The tournament that were to be held originally in November this year has been rescheduled for February 17 to March 7, 2021.

The decision, according to the world governing body for football, is taken following a “thorough assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent  recommendations made by the FIFA-Confederations COVID-19 Working Group”.

Despite delaying the tournament by four months, FIFA has not changed the eligibility criteria for the players, who should be born between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2005, to be able to represent their national teams.

“The dates were confirmed after taking into account the time needed to complete the UEFA, CONCACAF, CAF, OFC, and CONMEBOL qualification tournaments as well as the best possible conditions in the country to host a successful FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup,” the Local Organising Committee said in a statement. “We are now looking ahead and hoping to host a wonderful tournament that will give women’s football in India, the perfect platform to grow and develop.”

FIFA has also confirmed revised dates for the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup and the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica/Panama 2020 will now be held from January 20 to February 6, 2021.  Players born on or after January 1, 2000, and on or before  December 31, 2004 shall be eligible to participate.

FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2020 has now been slated from September 12 to October 3 next year.
