India vs Australia: KL Rahul ruled out of remaining Tests with wrist injury

Indian batsman KL Rahul has sprained his wrist while batting in the nets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday. After picking up the injury during Team India’s practice session, the right-hander has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and will now return to India for rehabilitation.

“He will need about three weeks time to recover completely and regain full strength. He will now return to India and head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of his injury,” said a BCCI statement.

India will host England at home in a four-match Test series starting on February 5. However, Rahul’s participation in that series is also in doubt because of the injury.

Rahul joins the likes of Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav who were also ruled out of the India-Australia series due to a fractured arm and a strained calf muscle respectively. India is also without skipper Virat Kohli who took a paternity leave and flew back to India after the first Test in Adelaide. Opening batsman Rohit Sharma missed the first two Tests but has now been included in the squad ahead of the New Year’s Test starting on January 7.
