IPL 2021: MCA’s Apex Council members to produce Covid ‘negative’ report to enter Wankhede

The Apex Council members of the Mumbai Cricket Asoociation (MCA) will have to produce a Covid-19 negative certificate in order to enter the Wankhede stadium, which will host 10 matches of the ongoing 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), it has been announced.

The first game at the historic venue will be held on Saturday when three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC).

In a letter to all the members, MCA secretary Sanjay Naik wrote: “Dear Apex Council members. As per BCCI’s protocol, all the officials who would be attending the IPL 2021 matches at Wankhede Stadium are required to produce a Negative report of RT-PCR test conducted within 48 hours of the match day.”

“The tests are mandatory even for those who have been vaccinated. The report will have to be produced at the time of entry to the stadium on each match day. Hence you are requested to get yourself tested at your end and carry the negative report to the stadium on match day,” he added.

Earlier before the ongoing season started on Friday, 10 groundsmen at the Wankhede had tested positive for Covid-19 however, later most of them had tested negative.

Recently, two more groundsmen and a plumber had also returned positive for the virus.

Significantly, Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai, is worst affected by Covid-19 in the entire country following whichthe state government has imposed weekend lockdown. However, the IPL teams have been exempted from it.
