IPL 2021: Two ground-staff, a plumber at Wankhede test positive for COVID-19

Just a day after the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai was cleared to host its share of 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, two more ground-staffs and a plumber at the spot have reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

The Wankhede is due to host its first game of the 14th IPL season on 10 April, which will see three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Delhi Capitals.

Earlier last Saturday, several ground-staff members of the Wankhede had tested positive for Covid-19 however, now most of them have recovered.

Among the players, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Devdutt Padikkal, Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel and KKR’s Nitish Rana are the three to have returned positive for Covid-19 however, Rana has now recovered and has started training along with his KKR squad.

On Monday despite announcing the weekend lockdown provisions and night curfew in the city between 8 PM and 7 AM, the Maharashtra government gave a green signal to the Wankhede for hosting the matches.

The government allowed teams to practice and travel to and fro their hotels to the stadium even after 8 pm, when the night curfew would be on.

Significantly, Mumbai is suffering the worst scenario due to Covid-19 in the entire nation.
