Kohli becomes first person in Asia-Pacific to hit a 100mn followers on Instagram

Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli, is no stranger to making records. He has over 20 test centuries and over 40 ODI centuries to his name, but today, he hit a century like no other. He became the first person in Asia-Pacific to hit 100mn followers on Instagram.

Just like his Instagram bio that says ‘Carpediem’ aka ‘seize the day’, Virat has been wearing his heart on his sleeve and leading India forward on the cricketing field, in a passionate way that no one has seen before. The philosophy transcends to his digital persona too, as he gives innumerable glances into his world. This includes his passion for fitness, accolades for his team, and admiration for players. He’s also set the internet ablaze when he shares moments from his personal life – from his wedding in Italy, announcing his wife Anushka Sharma’s pregnancy, his paternity leave and the arrival of their daughter, Vamika.

For over 2years now, Virat has been the most followed person on Instagram in India, but the recent follower growth has been quick, accelerated with the launch of his own AR effect, use of Reels to showcase his fitness regimen and recent Test match wins versus Australia and now England.

Virat was also recently in the news for retaining the top position in the celebrity brand valuation study by Duff & Phelps.
