MI Cape Town signs Robin Peterson as head coach, Lasith Malinga as bowling coach

MI Cape Town on Wednesday named former South Africa spinner Robin Peterson as their head coach for SA20 2024.

Notably, Peterson had coached MI New York to the inaugural MLC title. Peterson was also the General Manager of the MI Cape Town in 2023.

Meanwhile, former Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga has been named as the bowling coach.

Notably, MI Cape Town had finished at the bottom of the points table with just three wins from 10 matches.

Petersen will now replace Simon Katich as head coach while Malinga will replace former New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram.

Peterson and Malinga were also a part of MI New York’s title-winning campaign in the inaugural season of USA’s Major League Cricket earlier in 2023 as head coach and bowling coach respectively.

Meanwhile, former South Africa batsman Hashim Amla will continue as the batting coach of MI Cape Town, led by Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.

Significantly, MI Cape Town retained four players ahead of the next season, The four players are Rashid Khan, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada and Dewald Brevis.
