National level woman weightlifter fails dope test at NIS Patiala: Reports

A woman weightlifter, whose name is not disclosed and was part of the ongoing national camp at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala, has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance and hence has been provisionally suspended.

As per reports, the weightlifter is a national record holder and has featured in several international tournaments including the Commonwealth Championship.

Taking a break from the national camp, the weightlifter had gone to her home in October 2020 however, she tested positive after her sample was collected by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in the next month when she returned.

The woman weightlifter had reportedly consumed a product with a prohibited substance.

After she tested postive, she was asked to leave the national camp last month.
