Root becomes first batsman to score a double ton in 100th Test

England skipper Joe Root on Saturday became the first cricketer to score a double ton in his 100th Test.

Root reached the milestone in the second session of the second day in the first Test against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He reached his double ton with a six over long-on off a R Ashwin delivery.

This was Root’s fifth double century.

Meanwhile, Root also surpassed former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-Ul-Haq as the player with the highest individual score playing the 100th Test match of his career.

Significantly, Inzamam had slammed 184 against India in a Test match in Bengaluru in 2005,

Root is also only the ninth batsman to slam a century in his 100th Test.

Root had made his debut in Nagpur in 2012 when England won the series 2-1.
