Uday Shankar quits Star, to pursue entrepreneurial career

Uday Shankar has stepped down from his positions in the Walt Disney Company where he was heading the Star India and Asia Pacific business as the Star India Chairman and President of Star Asia Pacific.
He will vacate his office on December 31.
In the intervening period Uday will work with Rebecca Campbell to identify his successor to ensure a smooth transition.
Rebecca Campbell, chairman of Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer and International segment, has confirmed that Uday has quit the Walt Disney Company.
“I want to thank Uday for his leadership and dedication to our APAC business. With the successful launch of Disney+ throughout the region, he has helped put The Walt Disney Company in a commanding position in this dynamic and incredibly strategic part of the world,” said Rebecca.
“His vast experience and expertise have been invaluable in bringing together a strong, cohesive APAC leadership team to chart a path forward for our streaming businesses in the region and beyond.
“Uday has been a great friend, colleague and valued counsellor to me personally, and I know I speak for all of DTCI when I say he will be greatly missed. At the same time, I understand and respect his desire to make this change. I am extremely grateful that he has agreed to stay on to help ensure a seamless transition,” she added.
Uday rose as the leading media executive after having joined Star News as the Director News in 2006. He subsequently headed company’s India business and created a remarkable cricket portfolio with the acquisition of the Indian Premier League, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the International Cricket Council and the Asian Cricket Council media rights.
Uday will now start an entrepreneurial innings.
