Umesh Yadav ruled out of Test series vs Australia

Indian pacer Umesh Yadav picked up a nasty calf injury while bowling in the second innings of the second Test match against Australia at Melbourne. The bowler limped off the field in the middle of his fourth over and complained of tearing pain in his calf muscle.

Yadav, who claimed the wicket of Aussie opener Joe Burns before leaving the field, took no further part in the Boxing Day Test. However, according to India Today, the 33-year-old has now been ruled out of the rest of the Test series and will not take part in the third and the fourth Tests.

“Umesh Yadav complained of pain in his calf while bowling his 4th over and was assessed by the BCCI medical team. He is being taken for scans now,” BCCI media team said in a statement.

“Umesh is unlikely to take the field any further in this match and also looks doubtful for the next Test,” a BCCI source said.

The visitors are already without the services of Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma and Yadav’s absence will now be an even serious blow for the Indian bowling attack.
