The Maharastra Cricket Association (MCA) has named young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad as the skipper of the 20-member Maharashtra squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, beginning February 20.
The MCA announced its squad for the national ODI championship on its Twitter handle.
Significantly, Rurutaj, 24, an upcoming opener, had hogged limelight in last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), when he starred for the Chennai Super Kings.
Apart from Ruturaj, the batting department comprises of Kedar Jadhav, Rahul Tripathi, Ankeet Bawane, Naushad Shaikh, while Nikhil Naik and Vishant More have been named as the two stumpers.
The bowling attack features Satyajeet Bachhav, Jagdish Zope, pacers Ashay Palkar, Manoj Ingle, Pradeep Dadhe and Mukesh Choudhary.
Significantly, Maharashtra is placed in Elite Group D for the tournament along with Delhi, Mumbai, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Pondicherry, who all will be playing their matches in Jaipur.
