Women’s T20 Challenge Sees Record Rise In Viewership

In a brilliant achievement, the Jio Women’s T20 Challenge has witnessed a record rise in numbers for television viewership. As per ESPN Cricinfo, this year the tournament has collected 5.34 billion minutes in viewership, which is close to 2.54 times the viewership for the last edition.

While the title sponsor for the WT20C was Reliance Jio this season, the rise in viewership will give the tournament a chance to bag bigger deals in the next edition. More brands will be interested to invest in the tournament next time as it gets more exposure.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) inaugurated the Women’s T20 Challenge three years ago. The tournament is played between three teams and they take on each other twice during the league stage. The two best teams play the final as the other one gets eliminated. The tournament has seen participation from players all across the globe over the last three years.

Though the BCCI has a lot of work to do to take women’s cricket in India to the same level as in Australia and England, the rise in viewership comes as a positive sign for women’s cricket in the country. BCCI will look to plan a much longer T20 tournament and create a bigger domestic circuit to take the women’s game to the next level.

The WT20C’s clash with the WBBL this season restricted many top players to take part in the tournament.
