Australia’s Zampa tests Covid positive ahead of crucial match against Sri Lanka

Australian spinner Adam Zampa has reportedly returned positive for Covid-19 ahead of the defending champ’s crucial affair against Sri Lanka in Perth on Tuesday.

Earlier, hosts Australia had lost their campaign opener of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 against New Zealand. The Aaron Finch-led side will now most likely miss the services of Zampa for their must-win clash against Asia Cup 2022 champs Sri Lanka.

According to a report in Cricket.com.au, Zampa had returned a Covid-positive test recently however, the 30-year-old is showing only minor symptoms. Although Zampa’s participation in the match against Lanka remains clouded, the current rules of the tournament do not bar him from taking to the field.

If Zampa finds a place in the Australia playing XI, he would have to travel to the match separately and his interaction with his teammates would have to be limited.

Earlier, Ireland’s George Dockrell had also played against Sri Lanka despite the doctors finding him ‘potentially positive’.

If Zampa is rested for Tuesday’s game, Ashton Agar may find a place in the playing XI.
