In order to discuss and plan for the upcoming cricket season in the country, including the T20 World Cup scheduled in October-November this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called for a Special General Meeting on May 29.
A notice in this regard has been sent by board’s secretary Jay Shah, which has said that there will be a “discussion on the upcoming cricket season in view of the pandemic situation prevailing in India”.
The call for the meeting comes after serious doubts in the recent times have surface over hosting the T20 Word Cup in India as the country is witnessing the second wave of Covid-19 and reports have said that the third wave would likley hit the nation after September.
The SGM has been called before the ICC meeting on June 1 where the game’s global governing body is likely to take a call on the staging of the showpiece event.
Significantly, as per reports, the UAE has the other option for the event.
Earlier in its Apex Council meeting last month, the BCCI had shortlisted nine venues for the T20 World Cup which were Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai.
