India’s biggest Hockey Stadium to come up in Rourkela: Odisha Chief Minister

As Odisha prepares to host the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup India 2023, Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik came up with a massive announcement. He declared that a brand new world-class Hockey Stadium will be coming up in Rourkela city which would be the biggest Hockey Stadium in India. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 20 thousand.

The stadium which will be constructed at the Biju Patnaik University of Technology campus, Rourkela, will spread over 15 acres of land. The stadium will be a benchmark for other hockey stadiums not only in India but all over the world. It will also redefine the sports landscape in the region.

“As we have announced earlier, Odisha will once again be the proud host of the prestigious Men’s Hockey World Cup in 2023. The tournament will be organized both in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. Sundargarh district is our powerhouse of Hockey Talent. Many great hockey players from the district have represented the country at the international level,” said Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik in a video message.

The stadium is all set to offer a unique and mind-blowing experience with all the modern amenities in place. Recently, a high-level team including senior officials from the State Government, International Federation of Hockey (FIH), Department of Sports and Youth Services, and Hockey India had visited Rourkela. The infrastructure and allied facilities in the city to host the prestigious Hockey event were reviewed by the team. The development of synthetic hockey turf in each of the 17 blocks of Sundargarh district has already started.
