IPL 2021: 15 groundstaffs at Wankhede test negative for Covid-19

In a major relief for the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), 15 members of theWankhede stadium groundstaff have tested negative for Covid-19.

The 15 people have now been reportedly put in the Wankhede Stadium bubble while two persons, who had tested positive last week, have been placed under home quarantine.

The MCA however, is yet to receive a copy of the final report and the association.

Significantly, Mumbai is suffering the worst scenario due to Covid-19  with Sunday alone witnessing more than 11,000 cases.

Eight groundstaff members at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai have tested positive for COVID-19 after the tests conducted ahead of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL’s) 2021 edition.

Significantly, the Wankhede stadium will be hosting 10 league games in the upcoming season of the league.

On Friday, 19 groundstaff members at the Wankhede had undergone the mandatory RT-PCR tests in the last week where three were confirmed to have contracted the virus during the tests conducted on March 26, five more test reports conducted on April 1 returned positive on Friday.

The Wankhede is scheduled to host its first game just a week from now and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is likley to isolate those eight groundstaff at its two facilities — the Sharad Pawar Academy in Bandra-Kurla Complex and Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana in Kandivali.

The previous edition of IPL in 2020 had to be conducted in the UAE due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
