IPL 2021: Archer keen to represent RR if tournament gets rescheduled

England pacer Jofra Archer is willing to join his Indian Premier League (IPL) side —  Rajasthan Royals (RR) if the 14th season of the cash-rich league, which was postponed due to surge in Covid-19 cases inside the tournament’s secured bio-bubble, is rescheduled.

Notably, Archer was forced to miss the first half of this year’s tournament due to an elbow injury and a cut on his hand.

He however, returned to action recently for county side Sussex and on Friday, Archer picked two for 29 in the first innings against Kent and then got an early wicket in the second innings.

“It’s terrible in India at the moment and to be honest if I did go to India, I probably would have been home early, anyway, but I think that’s just how it’s gone. I feel hopeful when if it does reschedule for this year, hopefully, I’ll be able to go again but it was a hard decision to not go to India,” said Archer.

Speaking about his fitness, the right-arm pacer said that he wouldn’t be able to comment on how many games he would have been able to play for RR if he had participated in the IPL.

“It was just really unpredictable. I don’t know if I could have gone but I don’t know how many games I would have played,” said Archer.

After being ruled out of the tournament, Archer worked closely with Sussex and England men’s medical teams to get fit.

Archer will now be in contention for a place in the England side as the Three Lions will now host New Zealand for two Tests before taking on India in a five-match Test rubber.
