IPL 2021 Players Auction: Franchises not interested in Sreesanth; Pujara, Arjun make the cut

India international pacer S Sreesanth’s hope to resume action in Indian Premier league (IPL) has dashed as he was not shortlisted by any of the eight teams for the upcoming mini-auction, scheduled to be held in Chennai on February 18.

The Kerala pacer, who returned to competitive cricket after serving out a seven-year ban for involvement in spot-fixing in the cash-rich league, had earlier registered his name for the IPL 2021 Player Auction.

The BCCI on Thursday had released the shortlisted 292 players after each of the eight franchises sent their list of preferred players to the board. However, the list didn’t carry the name of Sreesanth.

Earlier, Sreesanth featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Torphy for his home state Kerala.

Sreesanth played all five matches for his side in the tournament where he bowled 18 overs, picking four wickets.

On the other side, India Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara and Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar, has been named in the final list of 292 players. Pujara and Arjun has a base price of 50 and 20 lakhs respectively.

Of the total players, 164 are Indians, 125 overseas players and three players from Associate Nations, who will be up for grabs in the auction.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh, Kedar Jadhav and eight foreign players have chosen to be slotted in the highest bracket of Rs 2 crore.

Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy and Mark Wood are the other eight overseas players.

On the other hand, 12 players fall in the second bracket, which has a base price of INR 1.5 crore.

With a base price of INR 1 crore, Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav are the two Indian players in the list of 11 cricketers.

15 and 65 cricketers fall in the third and fourth bracket of Rs 75 lakh and 50 lakh respectively.
