India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been signed by Kent Cricket for the remainder of the ongoing County Championship, the club has announced on Wednesday.
After the signing, Chahal will be the second India international to feature for Kent in the ongoing first-class season after pacer Arshdeep Singh. Chahal will be available for the remaining games of Kent against Nottinghamshire, Lancashire, and Somerset.
Chahal, 33, who represents Haryana in Indian domestic cricket, has played 33 first-class matches, picking 87 wickets at an average of 35.25.
“This is an exciting challenge for me, playing in English county cricket, and one I’m very much looking forward to,” Chahal said after the announcement on Kent Cricket’s official website.
Meanwhile, Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “We’re delighted to have secured a spinner of Yuzvendra’s quality for the last three Championship matches of the season, with Matt Parkinson not available to us until next year, and Hami Qadri recently injured.”
“He is really looking forward to playing in English conditions and will bring a significant amount of skill and international experience to our squad,” he added.
Notably, Chahal hasn’t been included in India’s World Cup 2023 squad and had earlier failed to find a place in the Asia Cup squad.
