Mithali Raj announces retirement from all formats of international cricket

Veteran India batter Mithali Raj on Wednesday announced her retirement from all formats of international cricket.

Taking to twitter, Mithali wrote, “Thank you for all your love & support over the years! I look forward to my 2nd innings with your blessing and support.”

“Today is the day I retire from all forms of international cricket,” she added.

“I feel now is the perfect time to call curtains on my playing career as the team is in the capable hands of some very talented young players and the future of Indian cricket is bright,” Mithali said in the statement.

Mithali, 39, made her international debut in 1999 and turned out in 232 ODIs, 89 T20s and 12 Tests for India over her career.

She amassed 7805 runs in the ODI with seven centuries and 64 fifties. She scored 2,364 T20 runs with 17 fifties and 699 Test runs in her international career which spanned over 23 years.

Notably, Mithali is regarded as the greatest Indian female batswoman. She led India to two ODI World Cup finals.
