Panchkula will host Commonwealth TT, confirms TTFI chief Dushyant Chautala

Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) president Dushyant Chautala has announced that Panchkula will host the Commonwealth table tennis championship later this year.

The announcement came from Chautala at the closing ceremony of the National championship late on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Chautala, who also serves as the chief of Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation (CTTF), confirmed the hosting of the championship after having hinted about TTFI’s preparedness to host the event in Haryana.

Significantly, Chautala is all set to get re-elected unopposed as the TTFI president for another four-year term during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the federation, scheduled to be held at Panchkula on Wednesday.

Arun Banerjee will be the new secretary while Gurpreet Singh takes over as the new treasurer.

Earlier in this month at the inauguration ceremony of the 82nd Senior National TT Championship in Panchkula, Chautala had said: “India has got the hosting nomination for the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2021 and whenever the next Annual General Meeting of the TTFI happens, we will work towards Panchkula hosting this International championship. Haryana can host International tournaments and all our efforts will be to organise this championship in a successful manner with players from 28 countries competing in the championship depending upon the then situation. In the Senior National TT Championship, which started today, more than 200 women players are competing after the RT PCR Covid-19 test and same will happen in the men’s category.”

Notably, India had hosted the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship in Odisha in 2019.
