Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen set to be re-elected as BWF Chief

Badminton World Federation (BWF) president Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen is set to be re-elected for another term during the 82nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the world governing body on Saturday.

According to the candidates released by BWF, Larsen is the only candidate for the top post and so, his selection remains guranteed.

The BWF AGM will be held virtually and will also elect 20 BWF Council members from 30 candidates.

Meanwhile, elections for BWF deputy president and BWF vice-president responsible for Para Badminton will also be held, which too, is likley to witness the see incumbents return to the post.

The incumbents for those positions stand to be re-elected unopposed, signaling continuity at the top of the BWF leadership, said the world badminton governing body.

Significantly, Larsen is also a Olympic gold medalist. He had won the yellow metal in the men’s singles category of the game at the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996.

Aprt from the Olympic gold, he had also won two All-England Open Badminton Championships in 1995 and 1996, and the European Badminton Championships in 1992, 1994 and 1996.

Post his retirement, Larsen became president of Badminton Europe in 2010 before being elected BWF president in 2013 and was was re-elected as BWF president in 2017.
