Rajeev Shukla likely to become BCCI vice-president

Rajeev Shukla, former Indian Premier League chairman, is the frontrunner to become the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). On the other hand, former India cricketer Brijesh Patel is likely to begin his second term as the IPL chairman.

According to the Indian Express, the vacant posts will be filled through unanimous decisions and will not have any election. The vice-president and two members of the IPL Governing Council are to be picked by the BCCI at its Annual General Meeting in Ahmedabad scheduled to take place on December 24.

If reports are to be believed, everyone has given a nod to Shukla being the next vice-president and the 61-year-old will be filing his nomination on Thursday. Shukla has been the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) secretary till 2017 but has never been a BCCI office-bearer. He has also served as the IPL chairman till 2018.

It is understood that the electoral officer hasn’t taken Shukla’s term as IPL chairman into account to decide the cooling-off period as it was considered the board’s sub-committee before the adoption of the Lodha Committee recommendations a year ago.

Shukla, who has been the UPCA nominee for the BCCI AGM, got his candidature cleared by the BCCI electoral officer in the final list provided to the members.
