India skipper Rohit Sharma has surpassed West Indies’ legendary batter Brian Lara to become the fourth-highest run-scorer in ODI World Cup history.
Rohit achieved the feat during the league game of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup against Bangladesh at MCA Stadium in Pune on Sunday.
In the game, Rohit was however, unable to slam his 54th half-century in the ODIs as he was dismissed at 48 off 40 deliveries. With this knock, the India skipper overtook Lara (1225) to become the fourth-highest scorer in the history of ODI World Cups as he now has 1243 runs and is only behind batting great Sachin Tendulkar (2278 runs), Ricky Ponting (1743 runs), and Kumar Sangakkara (1531 runs).
Chasing the target of 257 runs, Rohit took the Bangladesh bowlers to cleaners and anchored the Indian innings with his partner Shubman Gill.
Rohit got dismissed by Hasan Mahmud in the 13th over, getting caught at the deep square leg boundary after scoring 48 runs off 40 balls with the help of seven boundaries and two maximums.
After winning all of their four games so far in the marquee event, hosts India will now be facing New Zealand in their next game in Dharamsala on Sunday.
