Shubam Gill to miss second match vs Afghanistan in Delhi

After missing Team India’s campaign opener of the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup against Australia on Sunday, opener Shubman Gill will also be missing the second league game as he will not be travelling with the squad to New Delhi, the BCCI revealed on Monday.

Team India’s next fixture is against Afghanistan in New Delhi on October 11 however, Gill will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team, the BCCI added.

Notably, Gill is said to be suffering from dengue.
“He is under the weather, the medical team is closely monitoring him. We are hoping he gets better soon,” the BCCI official was earlier quoted as saying.

Opener Gill is the leading run-scorer for Team India in ODIs in 2023 after amassing 1230 runs at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03.

Gill meanwhile, also slammed two centuries and a half-century in his last four ODIs, two of those knocks coming against five-time champions Australia.
