South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma to join squad on Tuesday

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma will join the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup squad in Delhi on Tuesday, the country’s cricket board said on Monday.

Issuing a  statement, Cricket South Africa (CSA) informed that Bavuma “will travel back to India on Monday” and “will join up with the squad in Delhi on Tuesday”.

Although Bavuma had earlier arrived in India with his squad for the marquee event, he later flew back home last week due to family reasons.

In his absence, star all-rounder Aiden Markram is at the helm for the warm-up matches, the first of which against Afghanistan was abandoned due to continous showers at the Greenfield International Stadium on Friday whilr the second against New Zealand, is currently underway at the same venue.

South Africa will open their 2023 ODI World Cup campaign against 1996 champions Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on October 7.
