Sri Lanka’s tour of West Indies in doubt as two key members tests positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is likely to reschedule their men’s team tour of West Indies after head coach Mickey Arthur and opening batsman Lahiru Thirimanne have tested positive for COVID-19.

“Considering the current situation, Sri Lanka Cricket is exploring the possibility of rescheduling the tour of West Indies, which was scheduled to commence on Feb 20,” the governing body said in a statement.

“Immediately upon identification, both Arthur and Thirimanne have been directed to follow the government’s health protocol laid out on COVID-19,” the SLC added.

Tests were carried out on the provisional 36-man squad on Tuesday ahead of the series in the Caribbean that was scheduled to start on February 20.

“In the meantime, Sri Lanka Cricket will continue with normal operations, adhering to the stipulated Health Protocols in all its centers” the statement concluded.

Earlier in January, Sri Lanka played a two-match test series against England at home which they lost 2-0.
