The Indian mixed doubles pair comprising Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa on Wednesday defeated Indonesia’s second seeded pair of Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja in the first round of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament.
Rankireddy and Ashwini registered a 21-18, 21-10 win over the world no. 8 pair in the contest which ran for 38 minutes.
The Indian duo have now advanced to the second round. They will now be up against Indonesia’s Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.
On the other hand, Pranav Jerry Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy went down to England’s third seeded pair Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith 21-18, 21-15 in 39 minutes.
