Team India to undergo 14-day quarantine ahead of WTC final

The Virat Kohli-led Team India will undergo a 14-day quarantine period after they fly to England in June’s first week for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, a report in the Times of India has said.

Significantly, India qualified for the final of WTC after defeating England 3-1 in the recently-concluded Test series at home.

As per the report, the Ageas Bowl in Southampton could host the contest between India and New Zealand as Lord’s is no longer in contention to host the match.

Southampton is the preferred venue as it has the Hilton Hotel within the stadium premises.

The report further said that the Indian team will have to undergo the quarantine, whose rules will be similar to that of Australia during India’s tour Down Under last year.

“It’ll mostly be on the lines of the Australia tour where the initial three or five days will be in strict isolation, after which teams will be allowed to train while in quarantine,” those in the know-how of things told TOI.

Also, India will continue to stay in England after the conclusion of the WTC final, so that they acclimatise to the conditions before the Test series against England begins.

“BCCI has taken the call not to ask the players to return to India after the WTC final. The idea is to stay there and acclimatise to the conditions before the Tests begin,” sources said TOI.
