UEFA launches invitation to tender for broadcasting rights in Indian Sub-continent

UEFA, the administrative body for football in Europe, has introduced a tender process for the Indian Sub-Continent market for the broadcasting rights to the its club competitions for the period between 2021-24.

At present, Sony Sports Network is the incumbent rights holder for the UEFA portfolio.

According to reports, UEFA opted to initiate the tender process as the rights renewal negotiation process with Sony didn’t reach any point.

Another reason leading to the initiation of the tender process was because UEFA Champions League rights package has dropped in values during the last renewal cycle (2018/19 – 2021-22).

The rights package for the Indian Sub-Continent includes the rights to top-tier UEFA Champions League (and UEFA Super Cup), and the Europa League and Europa Conference League with rights to the second-tier and new third-tier competition packaged together.

The tender process is led by UEFA’s official marketing partner — Team Marketing agency and the first-round bid deadline has been set for 10 AM (March 16).
