Virat Kohli sets massive World Record in ODIs; surpasses Sachin Tendulkar

Former India skipper and run-machine Virat Kohli on Monday added another feather in his illustrious cap as he became the fastest batter to amass 13000 runs in ODIs.

Meanwhile, Kohli also broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar, who had set the record in 2004 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

The run-machine achieved the feat during Team India’s Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash against arch-rivals Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. While Sachin had achieved the feat in his 321st innings, Kohli took just 267 innings to reach the milestone.

Now Kohli is is the fifth batter to reach the milestone as prior to him, Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene had also achieved the feat.

While the Master Blaster took 321 innings to reach the mark, Kohli needed just 267 innings and became the quickest to reach the milestone.

While former Australia skipper Ponting and Jayawardene took 341 and 363 innings respectively, Jayasuriya had reached the mark in 416 innings.

Moreover, Kohli is the only one among the five batters to average more than 50.

Now Kohli has 47 hundreds in the ODI format and is also two tons away from equalling Tendulkar’s record tally of ODI tons.

During the game against Pakistan on Monday, Kohli tapped a delivery to the off side off pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi to reach to the three-figure mark.
