Warner breaks Tendulkar’s record to become fastest-ever to 1000 runs in ODI World Cups

Australia opener David Warner has become the fastest cricketer to amass 1000 runs in the ODI World Cup history.

Warner surpassed former India great Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers’ record of 20 innings after achieving the feat in 19 innings playing against India at the Chepauk on Sunday.

The Australian opener went past the mark in the first innings of against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and was at 992 runs after 18 innings before the match.

Warner is one of the most celebrated players in the cricket world and one of the most aggressive batters globally.

Warner had scored 345 runs from eight games in the 2015 World Cup and almost doubled it in the 2019 edition after scoring 647 runs from 10 contests including three hundreds.

The explosive left-hander has now become the fourth Aussie to reach 1000 World Cup runs after Ricky Ponting (1743), Adam Gilchrist (1085) and Mark Waugh (1004).

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is also not far from Warner and is just 22 runs short of achieving the feat. Rohit has scored 978 runs in 18 ODI innings.

Notably, hosts India registered a six-wicket win over the five-time World champions and opened their 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup campaign on a winning note. They will next take on Afghanistan on October 11 at the Arun Jaitely stadium in the National capital.
