AFC Champions League East Asia matches moved to Qatar

Asian Football Confederation has moved the remaining matches of the AFC Champions League East Zone Tournament to Qatar.

The decision was confirmed after the FIFA World Cup 2022 host nation has assured to provide a bio-secure zone for the AFC Champions League qualifying tournament.

Qatar has earlier successfully hosted the AFC Champions League West Zone Tournament from September 14 to October 3.

Top football clubs from the six East Zone nations in the Asia continent – China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Malaysia and Thailand – will compete in Doha for the right to play the AFC Champions League Final against Persepolis on December 19.

The East Zone matches will be played from November 18 to December 13.

“We are extremely grateful for the outstanding support of the QFA (Qatar Football Association),” AFC secretary general Dato Windsor John said in a statement.

“We can now build on the success of the AFC Champions League (West) while looking forward to the remaining exciting matches in Asia’s premier club competition.”

The Asian Champions League was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
