Coronavirus pandemic forces UEFA to cancel 2021 U-17 Euros

According to a UEFA statement on Friday, the 2021 men’s and women’s U-17 European Championships stands canceled due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The announcement by European soccer’s governing body says “Based on a constant monitoring of the development of the pandemic … the UEFA Executive Committee decided after consultation with all 55 member associations to cancel and/or postpone some of the 2020/21 youth national team competitions.”

However, the men’s U-19 Euros will go ahead as planned in July in Romania. The women’s event is scheduled to take place in July-August in Belarus.

Uefa’s flagship tournament, Euro 2020, which was originally scheduled to take place in June 2020 was postponed by a year. It will now be held between June 11–July 11, 2021.
