Gill doubtful for India’s campaign opener after testing positive for dengue

In-form India opener Shubman Gill is reportedly suffering from dengue and is likely to miss the Men In Blue’s campaign opener of the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2024 against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.

The match will be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday and it could be a massive blow for the hosts as Gill has been amongst runs in the ongoing year.

“He is under the weather, the medical team is closely monitoring him. We are hoping he gets better soon,” the BCCI official was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

Gill was forced to miss out Team India’s training sessions on Wednesday and Thursday however, the team management is hoping that it is nothing more than a flu.

Notably, the young opener is the leading run-getter for India in ODIs in 2023 after amassing 1230 runs at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03.

In his last four ODIs, he smashed two tons and a half-century and two of those innings came against five-time world champions Australia.
