Rohit Sharma becomes leading six-hitter in international cricket

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma played a fantastic innings against Afghanistan and became the highest six-hitting batter in International cricket at the Arun Jaitely stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The Indian skipper shattered Chris Gayle’s record (553) for most sixes in International cricket. Notably, Gayle had hit 553 sixes in 551 innings while Rohit surpassed it in just 473 innings.

Meanwhile, Rohit is also the third-leading six-hitter among Indians in Test cricket with 77 sixes and is only behind former opener Virender Sehwag (91) and former skipper MS Dhoni (78).

Earlier, Rohit Sharma equaled the record for the joint-fastest batter with David Warner to 1000 runs (19 innings) in World Cups against Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Rohit played a super knock of 131 runs off just 84 deliveries, which was laced with 16 boundaries and five hits into the stands before falling victim of ace Afghan spinner Rashid Khan in the 26th over of the second innings.

Earlier opting to bat, Afghanistan posted a 271-run target before the hosts.
