Swiss Open: Kidambi Srikanth advance to 2nd round; beats Sameer Verma

Ace India shuttler Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the second round of the ongoing Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament after defeating compatriot Sameer Verma.

In a contest lasting 61 minutes, Srikanth defeated Sameer 18-21, 21-18 and 21-11.

Srikanth, seeded fourth in the tournament, will now be up gainst France’s Thomas Rouxel in the second round.

Earlier in the day, the Indian mixed doubles pair comprising Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa defeated Indonesia’s second seeded pair of Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja in the first round of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament.

Rankireddy and Ashwini registered a 21-18, 21-10 win over the world no. 8 pair in the contest which ran for 38 minutes.

They will now be up against Indonesia’s Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari in the second round.

On the other hand, Pranav Jerry Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy went down to England’s third seeded pair Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith 21-18, 21-15 in 39 minutes.
