Swiss Open: Sindhu, Srikanth storm into semis

Ace India shuttlers PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and the men’s double pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have entered the semi-finals in their respective category of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament.

Srikanth defeated Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-19, 21-15 in 44 minutes and he will now face top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the semi-finals.

Olympic silver-medalist Sindhu defeated fifth seed Thai Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-16 23-21 in a contest lasting for 59 minutes.

She will now take on fourth seed Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in the semis.

On the other hand, second seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had to work hard to beat Malaysian pair comprising Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi 12-21, 21-19, 21-12

However, the other Indians in the fray had to taste defeat.

B. Sai Praneeth went down to Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia 14-21 17-21 in 45 minutes.

In an another men’s singles affair,  Ajay Jayaram lost 9-21, 6-21 to Thailand’s eighth seeded Kunlavut Vitidsarn.

Similarly, fifth seeded Malaysian pair Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing defeated Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa 21-17, 16-21, 21-8 in the mixed doubles quarter-final match.
